Bears Lose First Game of Season; Series to AFC Renegades

In what could only be an even greater start to the season with yet another win or tie, the Bears found themselves not only chasing two points, but having difficulty finding ways to get a shot past the goalie.  And making its third appearance this season, the heat, rounding at 91 degrees at kickoff, played yet another devastating role to the Bears' performance.

AFC Renegades would take some crafty shots, many that were deflected or off target, but in the 31st minute, a controversial shot would be taken by one of their female players as she would make contact on the Bears' goalie Mike Prause and force the ball across the net for two points.  The ref would be confronted by several players, including Mike and Coach Oscar, but the ref ruled it a goal.

For the rest of the game, the Bears found themselves at times trying to beat the heat than beating their opponents.  At times, fatigue set in for some, making passes difficult to chase and deflected shots to attack.

"We just didn't play our best today," explained Coach Oscar.  "We need to play better to win."

Through numerous opportunties, shots were not taken, but rather deflected by the Renegades.  Too many shots were off target, but by mere inches.  In the end, the AFC Renegades would hold on to a 2-0 victory, their first of the season, as well as their first against Club Bad News Bears.

Many players looked frustrated after the game, but with a two week break in between games, the Bears should get enough rest.  Hanniel Malagon will definitely benefit from the two week break as he left the game late in the second half with a knee injury.

"I felt something snap," described Hanniel.  "I've never felt anything like this before."

Hanniel's return is indefinite at this point.

MatchDay Preview: Bears Look to Continue Unbeaten Streak Against Renegades

June 26, 2011     6:00pm CST
Bear Creek Park, Field #27
Houston, Texas

Club Bad News Bears are off to their second best two-game start, totaling 4 points, including a decisive victory over rival Invictus.  Today's opponent, AFC Renegades (part of the Alliance Football Club) might help the Bears in improving their unbeaten streak, which currently sits at three games.

Last season, the Bears shutout AFC Renegades 4-0 at West Houston Soccer Complex.  Currently, the Bears have beaten AFC Renegades in all five meetings, outscoring them 27-6, including two wins at Bear Creek Park, outscoring them 7-1.

The Bears, although having recorded their biggest victory against AFC Renegades by a score of 11-3, should play with extreme awareness and focus as all good things can come to an end, including an unbeaten streak against an opponent.

The sixth meeting between these two teams will have to endure 94 degree temperature by kickoff, with absolutely no chance of rain to cool off.  Here's a preview for both teams:

Club Bad New Bears:
  • Sixth meeting against AFC Renegades.  Last meeting resulted in a 4-0 victory.
  • Club Bad News Bears will see the return of defender Ashley Castaldo.
  • First game at Bear Creek Park's Field #27, overall record at Bear Creek Park is 12-12-6 all-time.
  • Team needs to continue attacking strategy from last week and shut-down passing routes on defense.
AFC Renegades:
  • Sixth meeting against Club Bad News Bears.  Last meeting resulted in a 4-0 defeat.
  • AFC Renegades have never beaten Club Bad News Bears.
  • First game at Bear Creek Park's Field #27; overall record at Bear Creek Park is 6-18-2 all-time.
  • Key players can attack and score at will; aggressive at times, especially in the middle.
Injury Report:
No injuries to report at this time.

Week 2 Recap

Week 2 saw all six teams in action, with a possible glimpse into what this season might look like towards the end.

Coach Oscar Aviles congratulates the
Bears on their 4-3 victory over Invictus
Club Bad News Bears and Invictus may have found a rivalry amongst them.  Last season's 1-1 tie would be the hype that built up this Week 2 match-up.  A pair of goals by Rachel, with assists from Soijem and Albert, would be enough to defeat Invictus 4-3 and a sole position in second place with 4 points.

"Awesome win!" exclaimed Coach Oscar Aviles.  "See what happens when we all crash the goal area?"

The victory would be Invictus' first loss in the club's short history.

In other games, first place FC Happy Meal would add another three points to their season with a victory over Pluma Mountain Coffee with a 3-1 score.  AFC Renegades would lose their first game of the season 3-2 against Growling Trout.
